Position Summary:
The Title Examiner is responsible for reviewing and analyzing property records to determine ownership, encumbrances, and conditions affecting title, with a strong focus on New Jersey title practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Examine public records, including deeds, mortgages, judgments, liens, tax records, and easements
- Produce accurate title reports/commitments in accordance with New Jersey standards
- Identify title issues such as breaks in chain, open liens, or encroachments
- Interpret complex legal documents and summarize findings clearly
- Ensure compliance with state-specific requirements (NJ) and client guidelines
- Communicate with internal teams regarding title issues and resolutions
- Meet turnaround times and productivity benchmarks
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of title examining experience (New Jersey required)
- Strong knowledge of NJ county recording systems and title practices
- Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions and documents
- Familiarity with liens, judgments, bankruptcies, and tax searches
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multi-state or national title examining experience
- Knowledge of underwriting guidelines
- Familiarity with complex searches (foreclosures, REOs, commercial deals)
